Today's L.A. Times notes that the first person on the scene of Joaquin Phoenix's recent car accident was...Werner Herzog.

The famed director apparently tapped on the window after Phoenix's vehicle came to a stopped, checked to see if the Oscar-nominated actor was okay, and then disappeared from the scene.
